I HATE Hand Washing Dishes

Gag!

Gag!

All in all I really am happy most of the time living and traveling in the RV. I’ve really come around. GO ME! However, there are still some things that make me fee like I’m living in a trailer with my family. Which I am. But, like because we’re traveling I don’t feel like we’re actually classified as people who live in a trailer. Help me out here. Don’t burst my bubble. We’re not right? Gasp. Are we?

There are two things that make me feel like I’m living in a *third world country. One is when we’re in the car for long periods of time and I have tons of bags of snacks, toys, laundry, ect around me and I think to myself  “Oh man, I bet if someone drives past us and looks in the window they’ll think we’re homeless!” Once I voiced this to Mark and he said “No they won’t! We’re pulling our home behind us.” Not helping, Mark. Not helping.

The second is hand washing dishes. It’s not even so much the hand washing that I mind. It’s the “camp washing dishes”. Hear me out, here. When we’re some place for an extended period of time we have to be careful not to fill the waste water tanks up all the way or they’ll overflow. Rarely do we use our bathroom in the back. So rarely that I think we could rip it out and use that space for something practical. I digress. So most of what’s in our waste water tanks is simply dish water and soap. When I wash dishes I have to make the most of the water we have to wash them and be careful not to fill the 15 gallon tanks up over the course of time somewhere. 15 gallons isn’t all that much when you’re staying somewhere for a week.

So I have to “camp wash” our dishes. For example, I start with the silverware and serving utensils. I soap them up, rinse them off and that water goes into our drinking cups. I then soap up the drinking cups rinse them off, and that water goest into a pot. Etc. Etc  I do this until all the dishes are washed and clean? Yes, ?. If these aren’t going through a proper steam clean, sanitize cycle on a dishwasher, I still don’t classify them as clean. Sorry, not sorry. Hygiene my friends. Its 2016, we have technology and lasers for cleaning dishes now. Soap is just a fragrance to me.

So when I “camp wash” dishes I always have this visualization of myself washing dishes in some hut in Africa or something. I wanted to instert a photo here but Mark said no. Sorry. I guess it humbles me. Which I guess is mostly a good thing. Learning and growing everyday out here on the road I tell ya. But boy will I be giving my dishwasher a giant kiss when I get back to using one!
