Welcome to Adventure Possible. This quote is the North Star by which we set our course:
The Appalachian Trail’s ultimate purpose is to conserve, use, and enjoy the mountain hinterland which penetrates the populous portion of America from north to south. The Trail is a means for making the land accessible. The trailway should ‘open up’ a country as an escape from civilization.
–Benton Mackaye, founding meeting of the Appalachian Trail Conference, March 2-3, 1925
When Benton MacKaye and others noted the urban explosion during the industrial revolution, they sought to preserve a stretch of wilderness along the Appalachian Mountains that urbanites from Maine to Georgia could access and experience.
In the spirit of their mission, AdventurePossible.com strives to bring working men, women, and families into the outdoors, helping them periodically escape the fast paced, fully connected civilized world to experience adventure. To this end, we focus our writing on a few areas.
We write about little adventures to be had on the weekends, and we write about some bigger adventures based on our own experiences, such as thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, biking across America, and taking an RV trip around America.
By sharing our stories and advice from these adventures, we aim to inspire others to embark on their own life-changing adventures.
We also write about our (the Kelleys) unique approach to living a life of adventure, which builds adventure into life’s trajectory. This design gives us the structure, tactics, and opportunity to make adventure possible over the course of our personal and professional lives. Through our approach to life, we share with you how to make adventure possible, even when family, career, financial, and other pressures may make the possibility appear slim.
