I’ve decided in the next phase of my career and company building, the phase getting going after our year of South American travels in 2022 / 2023, I’m going to attempt to create an opportunity to work and play in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, a world-class saltwater fishing destination.
In partnering with an old startup colleague on a software engineering firm, we decided to base a nearshore engineering team in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. By doing so, we’re tapping into a great submarket of engineering talent, and I’m giving myself the added bonus to visit on occasion and wet a line.
On my first trip, we attempted to fish offshore, but a hurricane kept us pinned in the bay. We adjusted our strategy, and we spotted and targeted schools of jacks attacking baitfish on the surface. We hurled large topwater popper plugs and Yo-zuris at them, ripping the lures across the water. Just the casting and retrieving of the big lures wore out my arms, and the jacks truly kicked our tails.
