Druid and I danced around the idea of zeroing all morning. Finally I decided that I would take a zero as checkout time rolled around. Druid decided to do the same immediately. We had already completed all of our chores when we decided to stay. Our packs had been packed with five days of food and our clothes were washed, but the weather helped us decide to stay in town another day.
The winds blew hard all morning. When we were outside, it was a no-brainer, we wouldn’t be going anywhere. But back in the hotel room, where we were warm and felt guilty for not hiking, we vacillated. When I opened the door and found snow falling in the parking lot, we finally decided to stay. The Bear Mafia took a zero also.
Druid and I spend much of the day in the hotel room watching the same sports highlights over and over, waiting for Monday night football. I lounged in bed all day, resting my legs and hips which have been giving me trouble with chaffing. The zero felt terrific, but tomorrow I’ll return to the trail, rain, sleet, or snow. I must keep my schedule.
