We spent a half-day on the trail today, as we needed the kids to complete some school work in the afternoon. We drove an hour to the northern entrance to Alerce Andino. The drive included a short stretch on the Carretera Austral, Ruta 7, which runs south into Northern Patagonia. It was excited to see our first signs for the Carretera Austral, as we’ll soon be venturing down the road with the goal to reach the southern terminus of the road at Villa O’Higgins.
Our top goal was to spot a Pudu, the miniature deer. No luck, though we spotted another zorro / fox. We had a pleasant hike down to Lago Sargazo for lunch, and we were back at the house by 2:30pm for school.
