On one of our first days in Pucon, we visited El Cerduo park, a small, private park about forty minutes by car from the house. We had to drive around the base of the Villarrica volcano to reach the park. The park is situated on the northeast side of Volcan Villarrica, the snow capped volcano towering over Pucon. Our house sits on the southwest side of the Volcano on the shore of Lago Villarrica. So although the drive was forty minutes, the distance as the crow flies, which would be right over the smoldering crater of the volcano, is only a few miles.
We enjoyed the short hikes over the lava flows and the time spent in the clear streams. We also had our first good glimpse of the smoldering caldera of Volcan Villarrica.
