Last night I was invited to an English book exchange by a lovely woman I met on our WhatsAPP “gringos chat”. My need for conversation outweighed my social anxiety, and I willed myself to drive to a strangers house to spend an evening at the woman’s house in the neighborhood of Lo Barnechea.
It was glorious.
Since I love to cook and entertain, I offered to bring homemade salsa. When I arrived with my Tupperware and bag of chips, I teared up a bit seeing the host’s beautiful serving dishes and glassware. I had totally forgotten about this part of home life and entertaining. Everything was so lovely and presented so beautifully. She happily provided a proper and lovely dish for my salsa and chips, for which I was grateful.
We had a whole array of vegan bites. She too loves to cook and everything was as delectable as it was beautiful. I was so impressed as I love a theme when it comes to hosting. The house was magnificent and the weather glorious. We sat outside in the courtyard of the home for our party. It was just so nice to be in a real home for an evening.
We went around the circle and shared a sentence or two about ourselves and the books we brought. We then drew numbers and swapped books white elephant style.
There were 13 of us in all. We represented Ireland, New Zealand, Italy, England, the US, and Chile. These women were all so unique and smart and had been in Chile from 1- 13 years. I was honored to spend the evening in their company.
