Jane’s using her time in Chile to amp up case for getting a mammal for a pet. It seems she’s quite set on a rabbit, though she’s bounced around a bit. At time she’s wanted a mouse, gerbil, guinea pig, or dog. She’s now onto rabbits, I believe the dutch bunny in particular.
She has her parents as a captive audience. We’re with her all day, and she rarely misses an opportunity to remind us of her desire for a bunny.
I’ve been impressed with her willingness to read and research about the responsibilities of owning a pet and the need of a pet. She watched videos on how to care for rabbits, and she reads books on caring for pets. If only we could get her to read as diligently in school as she does about bunnies.
Katie and I have decided will give her a chance to own one of these creatures when we wrap up our travels. I’ve also explained that if she doesn’t hold up her end of the bunny, dad will take personal responsibility for relocating or otherwise dispatching the bunny.
