On Sunday we left our North Carolina home in the heat of summer, and on Monday morning we arrived in Santiago in the cold of winter. The southern hemisphere seasons are opposite of the seasons to which we’re accustomed in the north. On a July day, when summer temperatures topped 100F in North Carolina, we ventured into the expansive Parque Araucano in Santiago with our winter coats and beanies.
We discovered a small ice rink in the park, and the kids had a chance to drink chocolate caliente and ice skate in July. The also got a chance to start applying some of their Spanish, saying lo siento when bumping into kids and adults on the ice.
