At least twice a week I vacuum, dust, and wet mop the floors of our rental house in Santiago. We have a strict “no shoes in the house” policy mostly due to the dog poop everywhere in the city but also because of the black dust.
This black dust, dirt, pollution, (?) is everywhere. I remember something similar happening in the volcanic parts of California when we had the Airstream. Particularly when we were near Lassen Volcanic Park. No matter what I do and how much I clean, within a day the bottoms of our feet are black with dirt. So dirty that while we don’t make the kids shower every night they have to at least wash their feet every night before bed.
Sometimes I wonder about how much of that black dust, dirt, pollution is getting into our lungs? I try not to think about it too much or else I’ll spiral but it does pop up in my mind often while I’m cleaning.
