One of the pleasures of our adventures are the unexpectedly engaging times spent with our kids. Sometimes the days when we have the least activities planned are the days when we find the deepest connection.
On the morning we left Rio Maipo, we decided to visit the edge of the river to explore. The water was muddy and the banks dirty, and we ended up building cairns of stones. The kids had seen the small towers on their hikes, and they’d wanted to build their own. This turned out to be their chance.
Of course, building rock cairns flies in the face of leave no trace adventuring, but exceptions are made for low natural, high familial impact activities.
