What started as a pile of 1.5 gallon water bottles that needed to be recycled, turned into “Carlos” our Halloween decoration.
Originally, I had wanted to craft someone a robot costume or make the bottles into layers of ribbons for a skirt and head dress to resemble those from the Kari-Kari dancers we saw in Rapa-Nui. I pivoted when both those costume ideas were deemed “lame”. I encouraged the group project and had the kids go to the hardware “window” with me. It’s not a hardware store but rather a window where you tell the man what you need and he goes and finds it for you in the back. This required some Spanish practice in requesting both “verde and negro patina de arisol”. I’m happy to report the kids nailed it and came back with spray paint.
We also worked on some toilet paper roll bats with wings cut from a roller blade box. We think both projects turned out cute and have enjoyed having these Halloween decorations in the house.
