We drove a couple hours from Pucon to Huilo Huilo, a Patagonia rainforest and reserve. It’s a stunningly beautiful place, with numerous short hikes to see parts of the forest and many waterfalls.
We arrived before the park opened, and we ended up getting lost. We somehow managed to end up on a service road behind the caribou / reindeer preserve, getting into a pinch in tight trees and mud. We managed to get out without running afoul of the rangers.
After wandering around a bit, first in the car and then on foot, we ended up finding the cutest cafe in the reserve, where we discovered some of the best coffee we’ve had in Chile and a good ham and cheese sandwich. We refueled and regrouped at the cafe before heading out for hiking and exploration.
