I’m in charge of planning and booking where we stay. I made most of our National Park reservations in January and early February so as we’ve been traveling we’ve had milestone destinations to reach. However, the time between parks I usually wait and book anywhere from a week out to a couple of days before we know where we’re heading.
So I sort of surprised Mark when I booked our campsite for Missoula, Montana. While researching campgrounds in the area, I stumbled upon THIS! I mean? How could you not book a spot? So I did! Mark asked me what the heck I was doing when we pulled up. But after he saw how nice the campground was he just informed me that he wouldn’t be dancing and parked the airstream.
The only review I found for this place said they were very strict. 100% ok with us. Strict means they really care and if they really care it meets my #1 criteria: REALLY CLEAN! And it was just that….and SOOOOO much more.
They have a large, pristine dance hall where they host square dances almost every night. You’re only aloud on the floor if you’re in certain shoes. It’s that kind of place. There are lessons, there are guest “callers”, there are many people who come to camp for the summer and dance every night. It. Is. Awesome.
I love meeting people, especially older people that are really into their hobby. It gives me hope for my future. These folks were all about it and were having a great time. One evening, Jane and I headed up to the dance hall to see if we could watch. There were cookies and punch in the socializing area and a full dance going on in the hall. Everyone was dressed to the nines in their square dance attire. They even sell square dance clothing if you are in the market. I took off my shoes and she was in her footie pajamas and we spent almost an hour watching these couples whirl and twirl and square dance away.
Jane even learned some steps! If you even find yourself in need of a campsite near Missoula, or just want to observe a good time, stop by. They’ll welcome you with twirl!

I could totally get into this: especially if I could dress the part
