Remember that post when I talked about the challenges of a family of four sleeping in an RV?
Well, we’re still having some challenges establishing a routine while roaming the country, but our sleeping habits have normalized a bit.
Every morning, Wilson wakes up about 6:00am. Sometimes 5:30am, and more rarely 6:30am.
He doesn’t just wake up, but he slides out of bed and walks four feet to our bed.
I’m already moving when his feet hit the floor, knowing he’ll soon shuffle from behind the curtain that divides the kids’ bedroom from the bed/dining/kitchen room where Katie and I sleep.
I grab the sippy cup of milk that Katie prepped the previous night, snatch Wilson up in my arms, and head out the door to give Jane and Katie another hour or so of sleep.
If it’s not too cold, Wilson and I go for a bike ride or walk a little ways down a nearby hiking trail.
If it’s really cold, we huddle in the car with the heater running, singing songs, playing games, and occasionally watching Curious George or Paw Patrol on the DVD player.
It’s not a bad gig. Katie and I are getting to sleep around 9:00pm, so I’m getting a pretty good night of sleep provided Wilson or Jane doesn’t have a bad night.
I’m enjoying the sunrise sessions with Wilson, even if we are a little bleary-eyed and cold.

Such a good dad!
Jane (your daughter) says
He used to wake you up. Now he wakes ME! up. Its annoying when I get woken up at 6 or 7 in the morning. I remember an Instagram post mom made of Wilson sitting in a plastic crate at 4 in the morning. Thanks to Janice, with the “don’t get up till it turns green” alarm clock.
