Today I woke up to a brisk chill. I have no clue what the temperature was. I’d say high 30s. But it actually turned out to be not so bad. We had some pretty long climbs but the views were epic. I apologize now for the lack of pics of this as my phone camera is on the fritz. We hiked up these two great balds and you could see every direction. Some steep climbs too. My legs are pretty strong. I can even keep solid pace uphill. My feet on the other hand have some catching up to do. We had some crazy rocky Boulder hopping sections today. Definitely some dangerous terrain.
Sooooo then I come across two day hikers on my way down the steep backside of the mountain and they told me of a place a mile off the trail that has great burgers. Now for some reason I have been craving a burger. So I picked up the pace and headed to the road. I got there and had just decided to go when a guy pulls over and offers me a ride!! So off I was the BBQ place. His wife is through hiking and he is the trail support. He was in the process of slack packing her and some friends. He was an ex marathon runner and a retired IT executive. He joined me for lunch and we had a great chat about his wife’s journey and his experiences with people. He was extremely generous with his time as he then drove me to the dollar store and waited while I picked up some snacks and then drove me back. Great guy. For the life of me I can’t remember his name. His wife’s trail name is “lunch box”. So then back up the trail I went. My feet were feeling pretty good. I walked through some beautiful country today. I’m a lot lower in the mountains now just around 3,000 feet and spring is here. Birds singing and grasses and flowers and trees blooming out. This afternoon with about 2 1/2 miles to go I came to a river. I walked down wondering in my head if there would possibly be a place to camp. It was a large river about 40 feet across and had a nice soothing sound. Like a strong wind through the trees. As those thoughts were going through my head I saw tents ahead. A large and lush flat meadow right bedside the river!! Sweet. It was a gorgeous spot and I had to take it. I set up chatted with a couple of the others here. And then made dinner in time for me to catch the sunset and get some shots of the tent. I always love to photograph my campsites.
On the topic of photography I took some great shots today. I even got some really good GoPro footage for the documentary as well as some distance shots of the mountain we climbed today.
Hoping for another epic day tomorrow!!!!
