Trying to encourage the kids to get to our destination before we break into morning snack.

Trying to encourage the kids to get to our destination before we break into morning snack.

My mom was always anti-junk food. “Don’t buy it and the kids won’t eat it”- wise words from our pediatrician growing up. I’d like to think I’m better than the average Joe at what my kids eat. Sure, it would be super easy to throw them a bag of cheese-its or stop at a gas station and let them grab some chips or something when we’re on the road. But as the boy scout motto and more familiarly Scar from lion king say “Be Prepared!” Also, if your kids are running around and get hungry and all you have are apples and carrots you know what? They’ll eat the apples and carrots. They won’t starve themselves. If healthy options are all they have, they’ll pick the healthy option. <steps off soap box> (ducks from the tomatoes errrr cheese-its being thrown at her)

So every night before I go to bed, I stock this little cooler with fruit, nuts and the occasional cracker or small bag of cereal. *You’ll note the Trader Joe’s fruit o’s, these were the treat for the day. Then right after we finish breakfast I fill it with cheese sticks, cold or frozen apple sauce, and individual bags of carrots or berries. Then we’re off for our morning of fun!

Trying to break into our black cooler. We have a rule, only mama can go in and out of the cooler!

Our cooler has come in so handy. Many times we can make whatever I have packed our lunch so that we can continue our outing and get home just in time for rest. It allows us to eat healthy, feel good, and maximize our outings. As for drinks? We just drink water. Except for some milk before rest and bed for the kids, its 99% water.

Any other healthy, easy snack recommendations?
