today started out cold!!!! It took some motivation to get out of the bed. That’s for sure. It was a humid cold and it lasted all day. It warmed up to the 50s for a high today but the wind chill was brutal.
When I started out this morn it was a nice climb to the top of the mountain. There was a beautiful senses price forest at the top and the sun was just starting to hit it at 9:30 when I went over. The fog was lifting up off the cold ground and it was like being in the Northwest. I took lots of time to shoot today as I saw lots of beauty around. I also got a full 15 miles in today so I’m on schedule for Damascus. I saw Wilson and Benjali today going south. They are slack packing for a couple of days so they will be ahead of me for a couple days There are lots of new flowers coming out. Spring is rising up through the valleys and towards the top of the mountains.
The grasshoppers must have just had a hatch because there are millions of baby’s all over the ground. Pics to come. I made a decision tonight to continue past the shelter to see about camping on the top of the mountain today and I’m glad I did. I was concerned that I would get up to the top and there would be no campsite but I decided to risk the cold night to come. I really wanted to get some beautiful shots tonight and the sunset really came through this time. I even made a fire and took some camp shots for Big Agnes.
I had an amazing meal tongiht thanks to Mandi for packing up a sprecial treat. A bag of cheddar jalapeño cheese sauce from velveta. Mixed with cous cous and chicken and it was good “I guarantee”.
Tomorrow I climb over Roan Mountain. Should be a good day. I hear there is no rain tomorrow but rain all day Wednesday and Thursday. It cracks me up sometimes how many different weather forcasts you hear from people while hiking. They are literally from one end of the spectrum to the other.
