We’ve had a couple of RV’ers ask how we determine where we stay. So feel free to skip this post if you aren’t a camper.
I usually check 4 different places to find a campsite. That is when we’re not staying in a National or State park. Those I book through the state’s website or recreation.gov.
Campendium– This is a platform in which campers and RV’ers can submit reviews of the parks in which they stay. It’s still relatively young but reviews are being added all the time. We’ve found some really great park through this site.
Yelp– Once I find a park I check it on Yelp. Does Yelp need an explanation? I mean I used it weekly in Raleigh to find new things. I just didn’t know how many Parks were reviewed on Yelp until this trip.
TripAdvisor– TripAdvisor reviews as we’ve headed out West have been on point. I can usually check reviews of a park and have one from within the week. This has been super handy as finding out about a bathroom renovation etc. can make all the difference when you’re traveling.
GoodSam- This is a club in which you have to pay to be a member. We signed up through camping world when we purchased our generators. It provides you discounts at many parks as well as discounts on camping supplies. They check out and rate parks before they allow them to be Good Sam certified. While some Good Sam parks have been a little run down, all of them have felt safe.
Google- Facebook-Instagram- These usually have some really good bits of information as well.
Despite researching parks as much as I can, there still isn’t a ton of data about the quality of campsites and RV parks available. In fact both our favorite RV park and the scariest one have both been unrated and I couldn’t find anything online about them.
We continue to try and update the sources above with reviews as we go. We want to try and make it a little easier on the next family that does this. That will be you right?
