While onboard the Magellan Explorer, there were many opportunities to learn from the expedition staff, which included a marine mammal biologist, a geologist, a historian, documentary film makers, and veteran Antarctic guides. The seminars were wide ranging, covering the great explorations of Antarctica, the impact of the Southern Ocean on the global climate, and lessons in wildlife photography. At least one of us attended every session, and we also found education by visiting the bridge and exploring the ship with each other.
For Jane and Wilson, they also learned new lessons when interacting with the only two other children onboard, two brothers of similar age. The boys were impressive, in that they were well-traveled, multilingual, and with Russian heritage.
