Squirrels’ Rights at Seneca Falls, NY

img_5135No, Mark didn’t kick another squirrel. But Jane did think we were campaigning for their rights. Here’s the story.

When we decided to visit Ithaca New York, it was obvious that we needed to visit Seneca Falls National Park which was about a 30 minute drive from our campground.

It’s an election year and a woman is running for president. It gave us the perfect place to teach Jane a little bit about the women’s rights movement.

In route to the playground that morning, Mark, being the great dad he is, was talking to Jane about “girls” rights and what it means to vote. He was talking to her about how thanks to these women, “girls” can do whatever boys can. He told her that “girls” used to not be allowed to go to school (college) and learn like boys. We were certain she was understanding some of the concept.

She was nodding and agreeing that indeed this was an important ranger badge for her to earn.

Then she exclaimed “I can’t wait to see those squirrels!”

Mark and I gave each other confused looks. We both shrugged our shoulders not sure what she was talking about. He said “I’m not sure there will be much wildlife there. It’s more of a visitor center.”

Jane said sadly “But you said this National Park is all about Squirrels’ Rights!”

    I don’t know what’s funnier:
Squirrels’ rights or the Junior Ranger pledge in that crazy Super Gecko outfit.
