Chime Time in the Bell Tower at Cornell University

img_5063We have a Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood DVD that both Jane and Wilson love. It has 3 episodes of the show on it, and Jane can recite every line of every episode. Super fun to watch…SUPER.

In one of the episodes, the character’s picnic ends up getting rained out. They decide to have an indoor picnic at a clock factory and get to enjoy all the clocks going off on the hour for “chime time”. Jane and Wilson both love it.

When we were in Ithaca, NY, we took the opportunity to enjoy our own “chime time” up in the Cornell Bell Tower.

For those who many not know, the Cornell chimes have been part of the campus for over a century. If you are willing to climb the 161 steps to the top of the bell tower, you can enjoy a free concert from the top where they ring the bells. The tower is open for concerts three times a day. It really is a cool experience. And the chime masters even take requests!

The kids enjoyed the concert. The chime master played “You Are My Sunshine”, which is a song I sing to Wilson every night. She also played “Happy Birthday”, “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas, and “Lets Go Fly a Kite” from Mary Poppins. The kids were thrilled.

Here are some pictures from our concert.
