This is a story of a true angel.

This story starts as most do on the trail. We were walking about 2 miles from our campsite when we ran into an old time friend of mine.   Rock Ocean as he is referred to on the trail was also on his thru-hike.  So we stopped and chatted as he packed up camp.   As we were about to start back at it i tightened my waist belt and pop there goes the latch.  Broke in half.   With 12 miles to go I just tied it in a knot and headed out.  Now I’m not gonna lie to you and tell you that it wasn’t a big deal.  It sucked.

Apparently this Alps Mountaineering pack wasn’t made at all to be durable. As the chest strap broke with 8 miles left.  Thank the stars the we were coming into dicks creek gap and able to hitch a ride into town.    So with 8 miles left I put all the weight on my shoulders and trucked along.   We finally made it into town and I was beat.   Luckily we were able to split a room with Rock Ocean at the Holiday Inn express in Hiawassee Ga.    They had a hot tub and it was AMAZING!!!!

So on with the Angel part of this epic story.   As you can imagine I was scrambling to find out how i was going to replace my pack and how long that was going to take.  Come to find out no one in town had packs and I had no car to go get one.  In steps my Angel,  my Momma.  I called my mom in a panic as she lives in Atlanta and she was my only hope.  She answered and I was relieved to hear her voice.    I told her my delima and asked if she could help.   She of course was offering her help up immediately.  So with out hesitation the next morn she left out to meet me.  She stopped and picked up a pack for me at  REI and drive 2 1/2 hours one way to bring it to me.  And then drive all the way back for an appointment in Atl.  She is the greatest and this post is dedicated to her and all she does to support my crazy dreams!

Love you momma
