It started at about 2am and is still constant when we decided to get up and going for the day. Everything is wet, everything. We packed up as quickly as we could and off we went. We left Henry Gap about 10:30am and headed for Blood Mountain – which I have now dubbed Blood, Sweat and Tears Mountain, rightfully so. Through Jarrad Gap and over Gaddis Mountain. We were so concentrated on watching our every slippery step we were on Blood Mountain before we even noticed. Up, up and up some more over wet rocks and muddy trails. We sloshed our way to Blood Mountain Shelter. Stopped for a breather, chatted for a bit and we were back at it. I’m sure the view is to die for but all we saw was fog 🙁
With the thought of a possible cheeseburger or pizza at the end of the day Johnny was booking it on the downside. Once we arrived at the infamous Mountain Crossings store we decided to grab a cabin for the night and dry out. Blood Mountain Cabins are great, super nice and free laundry! Also frozen pizzas galore YUM! We gobbled down 2 and PTFO!
